While hiring a professional to care for your lawn is the very best way to ensure that your trees, plants, and turf stay their healthiest, many homeowners also invest in their own lawn tools to give their lawn additional care in between visits. In the winter, however, you may be unsure of how to store these high quality tools. Here are some tips from Fit Turf for properly storing lawn tools before that first frost strikes.

Remove the batteries from any battery-powered machinery. Store these batteries in a cool, dry place that won’t come in contact with the frost or snow. A temperature of 59 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal.
Drain any lithium batteries to a charge of 30% to 40% before storing them for the winter.
For gas-powered equipment such as lawnmowers, be sure to drain most of the gasoline from the tanks. Then, run the equipment until the tank empties and the engine stalls.
Crank the engine two or three more times to empty the carburetor. If you don’t winterize the engine, you could have to replace the carburetor completely.
